Reasons for Red Patches on Betta Fish
Water Quality Issues: Poor water quality may cause congestion on the body surface of betta fish, resulting in red patches.

Insufficient Lighting: Betta fish need appropriate lighting. Insufficient lighting can also lead to congestion on the body surface.
Stimulation from New Water: Excessive stimulation from new water may cause betta fish to have a stress response, resulting in red patches.
Viral Infections: Infectious diseases such as herpes virus may also cause red patches to appear on betta fish.
Ulcerative Disease: The ulcerative disease caused by parasites, bacteria, or viral infections can also lead to the appearance of red patches on betta fish.
Frostbite: When the water temperature is extremely low in winter, betta fish may get frostbite and develop red patches.
Lack of Oxygen: If betta fish are gasping for air at the water surface, it indicates a lack of oxygen, which may also cause red patches to appear on their bodies.
Solutions
Change the Water Source: Replace the water to maintain a clean water source. Raise the water temperature appropriately and disinfect the fish tank.
Increase Lighting: Provide suitable lighting and extend the lighting time of the fish tank. You can install a light in the fish tank.
Control the Water Temperature: Avoid fluctuations in water temperature, especially when changing the water. Keep the water temperature around 26 - 28°C.
Medication Treatment: Use yellow powder (nitrofurazone) or oxytetracycline for medication treatment. Spray the whole tank or soak the sick fish.
Isolation Treatment: Isolate the sick betta fish separately. Add an appropriate amount of salt or antibiotics such as gentamicin. Provide a shaded environment and reduce feeding.
By using the above methods, the problem of red patches on betta fish can be effectively dealt with, ensuring the health of betta fish.
