Things to note when raising angelfish

The precautions for breeding angelfish mainly include the following aspects:

Choosing the right aquarium and arranging the environment: Angelfish are medium to large-sized tropical fish. It is recommended to use an aquarium that is at least 60 centimeters long, 45 centimeters wide, and 45 centimeters high. The aquarium should be placed in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, and where the temperature doesn't change much, to ensure the stability of the water quality. There should be plenty of aquatic plants and rocks arranged inside the aquarium to provide hiding and resting places and simulate the natural ecological environment.

Water quality management: Angelfish are suitable to live in soft water that is slightly acidic to neutral. The pH value should be maintained between 6.5 and 7.5, and the water temperature needs to be kept between 26 and 30 degrees Celsius. Regularly test the water quality parameters, such as ammonia nitrogen, nitrate, pH value, etc., and adjust them in a timely manner according to the test results. When changing the water, use new water with a temperature similar to that in the tank. Each time, the amount of water changed should not exceed one-third of the total water volume to avoid sudden changes in water quality that could shock the fish.

Feed and feeding: Angelfish are omnivorous fish, eating both plant-based and animal-based foods. It is recommended to provide a variety of foods to meet their nutritional needs, such as algae, vegetable leaves, bloodworms, brine shrimp, etc. Feed them twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. The amount of food each time should be such that the fish can finish it within 5 minutes, to avoid overfeeding which could cause water pollution and make the fish overweight.

Disease prevention and treatment: Although angelfish are relatively hardy, they are still unavoidably affected by diseases. Common diseases include ichthyophthiriasis, bacterial infections, etc. The key to preventing diseases lies in keeping the water clean, feeding reasonably, and avoiding overcrowding. Once any abnormality is found on the fish, isolate the sick fish immediately and take corresponding treatment measures according to the symptoms.

Reproduction and fry care: The reproduction of angelfish is relatively easy, but it requires suitable water quality, temperature, and light conditions. During the breeding period, a good filtration system and aeration equipment should be provided to maintain clear water and sufficient oxygen.

Precautions for mixed breeding: Angelfish have a gentle temperament and are suitable for mixed breeding with gentle fish species, such as guppies, mollies, zebrafish, and tetra fish. Avoid mixed breeding with tiger barbs of the Cyprinidae family, because tiger barbs will bite the anal fins and caudal fins of angelfish and affect their appearance.
