The survival time of Koi fish in a basin depends on several factors, including the size of the basin, water quality, oxygen supply, temperature, and the health condition of the Koi fish.
Influencing Factors
- Size of the Basin and Water Volume: The larger the basin, the greater the water volume, and the more abundant the oxygen supply. As a result, the longer the Koi fish can survive. Conversely, if the basin is small with little water, there will be insufficient oxygen, and the Koi fish will quickly die due to lack of oxygen.
- Water Quality Management: Keeping the water quality clean is crucial. Regularly changing the water (such as replacing one-third of the water volume daily) can extend the survival time of the Koi fish. If the water quality deteriorates, the Koi fish will die due to the accumulation of metabolic waste.
- Oxygen Supply: Equipping an air pump to increase the oxygen content or regularly stirring the water surface can increase the amount of oxygen in the water, thereby extending the survival time of the Koi fish.
- Temperature Control: The water temperature needs to be maintained between 5°C and 30°C, with the optimal range being 21°C to 27°C. A sudden temperature change of more than 3°C can easily trigger diseases and lead to the death of the Koi fish.
- Health Condition of the Koi fish: Koi fish in good health have stronger adaptability and can survive longer in adverse environments. On the contrary, weak Koi fish have a shorter survival time.
Specific Time and Conditions
- Ordinary Basin (Without Oxygenation Equipment): Without changing the water and without additional oxygen supply, Koi fish can generally survive for 3 to 7 days. If the water volume in the basin is large and the water quality is kept clean, they can survive for up to 10 to 30 days at most.
- Optimized Conditions (Oxygenation/Water Change): With an air pump for oxygenation and regular water changes (replacing one-third of the water volume each time), the lifespan of the Koi fish can be extended to 15 to 30 days.
