The breeding of parrot fish requires attention to the following aspects:
Water Quality and Temperature: Parrot fish prefer soft water that is slightly acidic and has low hardness. The suitable water temperature ranges from 25 to 30 degrees Celsius. Dramatic changes in water temperature will affect the body color of parrot fish. Therefore, when changing the water, it is necessary to control the change in water temperature to no more than 0.5 degrees Celsius.
Oxygen Requirement: Because the lips of parrot fish cannot close and their ability to take in and expel water flow is rather poor, they have a relatively high demand for oxygen. As a result, biochemical filter cotton, water pumps and oxygenation equipment should be equipped in the fish tank to ensure that there is sufficient oxygen in the water body.
Feed Selection: Parrot fish are omnivorous fish and can be fed with bloodworms, brine shrimp, pellet feed, etc. In order to maintain the bright body color of parrot fish, it is recommended to use artificial bait with added astaxanthin and carotenoids.
Lighting: Parrot fish need sufficient lighting. However, excessive lighting will cause the water quality to turn green. It is recommended to provide 3 to 4 hours of lighting every day.
