Feeding Frequency of Parrotfish:
1. Fry
Parrotfish fry need to intake a large amount of nutrients. Brine shrimp eggs, which are rich in protein and amino acids, are the best food for them. The brine shrimp for fry is preferably the de-shelled brine shrimp larvae. There is no need for hatching, and it can be directly fed. Also, there is no need for refrigerated storage. Brine shrimp with shells is not suitable for fry to eat, as it is likely to cause indigestion or constipation for them.
Fry need to be fed 2 to 3 times a day. Determine the feeding amount according to the number of fry and their appetite. It is best that the fry can just finish the food each time. If there is any remaining food, remove it in a timely manner. Due to frequent feeding, the water quality is likely to be polluted. After each feeding, a part of the water needs to be replaced with fresh water every day, and the water should be completely changed once every three days.
2. Juvenile Fish
Parrotfish are in the juvenile stage before they are 6 months old. At this time, a variety of live baits can be fed. If it is blood parrotfish being raised, pay attention to the coloration issue. They can be fed once a day, with food mainly including bloodworms, fresh small fish and shrimp, water fleas, etc., and supplemented with color-enhancing feed.
3. Adult Fish
Parrotfish are considered adult fish after they are 8 months old and can start breeding. At this time, if you want their body color to be bright, in addition to feeding color-enhancing feed, you should also pay attention to maintaining the constancy of the water quality and water temperature. Keep the water temperature at 30°C, change the water twice a week, replacing one-third of the water each time, and maintain 3 hours of light exposure every day.
The feeding frequency of parrotfish varies at different growth stages. During the coloration period, more feed containing astaxanthin should be fed.
