The sleeping time of parrotfish is usually 2 to 3 hours, and the sleeping time is not fixed. They may sleep more than a dozen times a day, with each sleep lasting about 20 to 30 minutes. In addition, the sleeping time of parrotfish mainly concentrates from 1 a.m. to an hour before dawn, and within the three hours after 12 p.m. at noon.

When parrotfish are sleeping, they show obvious characteristics. For example, their heads lean forward and slightly downward, and they stay still in the middle and lower layers of the water. There are no obvious signs of their fins moving, and their bodies will gradually turn red. These characteristics indicate that parrotfish are in a relatively resting state when they are sleeping.
